Soooo… It seems that whenever I have a deadline… Like the birth of my fourth child… I like to throw in a few extra projects… A massively expensive day at the mechanic… 2 days instead of one running errands… and/or DIY Dollar Tree Topiaries I had laying around for YEARS just waiting…
Ya know, as much as I can cram into my little crazy head to do… I make up my mind I am going to do it…
AND IT MUST GET DONE by said deadline!
It’s really actually crazy.
It’s not what sane people do.
It adds to the excitement of baby coming;-)
Sooooo I made these topiaries while my son was working on math problems:-) They literally only took that long!!!
I bought the pieces necessary to make these topiaries… 3 years ago!!!!
I moved them from one house to another… Unfinished.
So naturally I needed to complete this project that has clearly been keeping me awake at night for years… TODAY:-)
This little project is EASY!!!! And it’s QUICK!!! My kind of project:-)
What you need:
~hot glue gun
~Green grass stuff (1 pkg does 2 topiaries and it’s $1 at the Dollar Tree!)
~white rock (also $1 at the Dollar Tree)
~floral foam (also at the Dollar Tree:-)
~scewer sticks (like the ones for skewering food;-)
~small terra cotta pots (I just have tons… But Walmart has them for 78 cents a piece!)
~green foam balls (2 pack… again… Dollar Tree find)
Did I mention this will make you TWO topiaries?!?!
1. Glue onto the green foam balls, then push on the greenery. Pull off the extra or shake it off. Continue doing this until the whole ball is covered.
2. I wanted my screwer sticks to be darker so I quickly rubbed some stain over them and wiped it off, not even waiting for that to dry, I stuck them in the end of the topiary ball:) (because I am impatient)
3. Put a floral foam block tightly into your pot (I just glued mine in so it was solid), stuck the skewer in the ball and then into the floral foam….
4. Lastly, you can either hot glue the white rocks in… Or do what I did and just pour them in and call it good:-)
If you are going to store these half the year, I would glue the rocks just to make life a little easier… But otherwise it is not necessary!
The possibilities are ENDLESS on how to use these in your decor:) For now they are sitting on a barn wood shelf in my kitchen and I love them!
For $6 for the both (which I can now consider free because I bought it soooo long ago and didn’t spend a penny in this calendar year:) I would say this little project can’t be beat!
These would also look super cute with just the greenery on the balls in a wooden bowl for Easter and Spring decor!
Side Note: Today is ONE week from baby’s due date… which means… I will be prego another 2 weeks;-/ Let’s see what actually ends up happening;-)
