I have been thinking about making another batch of homemade laundry detergent because… well… no more laundry is going to get done until I do…
So of course that means when the cows come home or the second coming of Christ I will finally decide to take 3 minutes and make more…
THEN I will forget and the laundry cleaning agenda will not happen(although I did consider for 3.8498638 seconds to just wash the clothes with fabric softener and let it go… I didn’t, so don’t think horrible thoughts of me:-)
This stuff is so ridiculously easy to make so there is no reason under heaven and earth that this was hard for me to accomplish…
But ya know… It was just hard:-)
A little background:
I have been making Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent for years because it is even MORE cost-effective than this recipe I will share today…
And you only have to make it about once a year for a family of 5!!!!
But it’s more labor intensive (meaning I can’t make it in 3 seconds… It takes about 7.562382 seconds) but when you only make it once… It pays off….
But again…. I am in a funk (aka past my due date and slightly annoyed with that) and this was enough work for me so here you go…
Easy Peasy Homemade Laundry Detergent
Just remember this ratio: 2:1:1 and all of life will fall into place:-)
2c. Fels-Naptha (1 bar)
1c. Washing Soda
1c. Borax
First, chop up the Fels into cubes, then put in a blender to chop up into tiny pieces.Mix it in a blender, pour into a pretty jar for the Aesthetic Appeal of it all and enjoy the glorious bounty of yummy smelling clothes that are cheaply washed but looking beautiful:-)
Now, if you want to get all fancy pants… or you have super dirty family members living with you (aka a husband that works construction or lawn care or just kids that like to get messy;-) you can add a few extra things that yes, will increase the price a little bit but no, will not make life any more difficult.
Add 1 box Oxi-Clean
And 1 container Unstoppables (in your favorite scent)
Then go hang those scented beauties on the country clothesline and mix in that country fresh air…
Heaven!!!
But seriously…
Wasn’t that the easiest thing you have ever done?!?!?!
Now, for fabric softener…. (if you don’t use the Unstoppables;-)
White vinegar works GREAT!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! I’m not kidding!!! And your clothes won’t smell like vinegar at all!
But for a little yummy scent… I have been known to still use a little liquid fabric softener (which annoys my husband because I don’t separate laundry…oops… and sometimes I use softener on towels which I guess is a no no…)
Now you know all my horrible laundry habits and secrets. Don’t judge, just follow suite and I PROMISE your life will be soooo much easier;-) And cheaper;-)
Enjoy!
