I am in love with my Savior, my husband of 10 years, and my 4 wonderful babes. I love figuring out the how-to of making being a momma, running a household, and feeding my family healthy yet easy meals all work together without sacrificing those precious things that were important to me before my life changed into mom-life.
The reality is that most mommas feel they are sacrificing, surviving instead of thriving, like they are failing in different areas of life because there is just so much more to it all now that babes are in the mix. Glorifying God with EVERY area of my life is DIFFICULT!! I am a work in progress along with every other momma out there! But with 4 kids, a husband working full time retail hours and going to school full time (aka single parent life for me;-), living on a farm in the country with a garden so big it could eat you in your sleep, working at the hospital (sometimes;-) as a Respiratory Therapist, homeschooling, and building some furniture from time-to-time, I am learning what it truly means to not just survive these young babe years but THRIVE in them.
I LOVE creating a home that is thriving, that is a blessing and haven to those that enter, and that is as beautiful as can be on a tight decorating budget (aka DIY curtain rods, curtains, dining room table, DIY coffee table, and strange things hanging on my walls to make this farm home).
I LOVE eating healthy and raising my kids to enjoy all foods God created! My story of a “healthy life”, to an unhealthy weight after a few babes, to losing 80 pounds, back to having two more babes and then maintaining that goal weight has taught me a lot about health, why it is important and how to realistically live a healthy lifestyle within a VERY BUSY life.
Most of all I LOVE being a wife and momma. I am passionate about “mommin’ it” and doing it to the best of my ability with a lot of grace and wisdom from God thrown in there DAILY;-) Being a momma is the biggest calling God has on my life and I want to raising my babes to love and glorify God all the days of their lives. I have some good tips on how to get a baby to sleep through the night by 6 weeks old (I have successfully accomplished it 3 times now;-), what foods to start your baby on as infants, and how to establish a GREAT quiet time routine that sticks around. All those practical things are IMPORTANT to being a sane and happy family, I am all for them, and will share them on this blog but the HEART of my babes is most important! I want my babes to be a joy to be around from day to day, to understand who God is and what He has done for them, to love people and be kind….
There is so much that goes into raising our babes… and it’s all important!
Some Weird things about Me
~My name is said just how it is spelled…. Jill + Lynn.
Now put it together…. Jillynn;-)
~I am slightly OCD.
Nothing clinically diagnosed here… but it has to be true!!! I don’t like random things sitting on my kitchen counter… not even the vitamin bottles we take vitamins from daily;-/
I don’t like when pillows are haphazardly thrown or scrunched on a couch…
I don’t like when I leave the house and anything is out of place…
So I write some about not being TOO crazy-lady… and realistically controlling the clutter without losing your mind;-)
~I met my husband in junior high, graduated high school with him, but we never dated until the summer after high school.
We dated for 3 years right out of high school. We bought our first home together 2 weeks before the wedding, Kurt moved in until the wedding, I took medical boards 5 days before said wedding, a hurricane sent us home early from our honeymoon with me puking the whole trip back from food poisoning…
And ever since we have GONE BIG;-) We never seem to do anything that “normal” people do or really even the easy way, but that’s what makes life interesting and fun, right!
There is no one in life more capable of taking care of me and keeping me calm;-) He takes life in strides while I immediately freak out. He is patient and kind and the PERFECT DADDY to our 4 babes. I can’t believe we have been together 13 years and married 10 come August 2017!!! Where does the time go when you are having fun?!?! He is my man and I thank Jesus for him every single day!
~I was never a “kid person” growing up.
I am the oldest of 4 kids and remember having to babysit A LOT;-) I have three younger brothers and we are all 2 years apart in age. I didn’t do much babysitting outside of babysitting my brothers and preferred to work at the local grocery store than take care of kids.
This mom thing is so great in that you don’t have to be a “kid person” to be good at it and LOVE it! I LOVE my babes more than anything in the WORLD! I couldn’t imagine life without them, and I LOVE spending time with them! They are insightful, cute, funny, sweet, cuddly, ADORABLE, and just the greatest little things!
I am a work in progress in the mommy life. I still HATE pretending to be a superhero and would rather pluck my eyes out before playing Woodsies… but I do it… sometimes… because I love my babes (and it’s a good thing their dad has an imagination so that is kinda their thing to do together;-). I don’t have all the answers and I mess up quite a bit but I KNOW that raising my babes to love God is my biggest calling in life… and I want to do it well. I want to ENJOY these awesome little people. I want to raise some functioning members of society in a world where those types are more few and far between.
~I FINALLY decided on a hair color… after trying every single one in the book!
I have been the darkest brunette to the orangest of orange (bad box of color;-) to the blondest of platinum. I have settled somewhere in between but really feel as I age (30 is aging right?!?!?) I might do brown one more time down the road… then let the gray take over. There is beauty and wisdom in a head full of gray hair right… and it’s cheaper;-)
~I had meningitis when I was 12 weeks pregnant with my second child.
This was the biggest thing that had ever happened in our lives and most challenging. I don’t remember 3 months of my life or what my first child did the whole time mommy was sick but I do know I have a MIRACLE baby in my daughter Henley. We got everything from “the baby won’t make it through the pregnancy” to “your baby will be a vegetable because her brain isn’t growing” to “I don’t know how… but you have a PERFECTLY HEALTHY LITTLE GIRL!!!” God is faithful!!! My little spitfire child is my biggest sanctifying tool from God and the biggest blessing to our family. She is just a perfect fit;-)
~I LOVE lists and checking things off lists…
This could possibly fall under that OCD category… but I LOVE lists and have been known to write something down that has already been done just so I can have the satisfaction of crossing it off said list! And pencil and paper are where it’s at… nothing too technical going on here;-)
~I never knew I was a country girl at heart… until I moved to the country.
Two years ago we took the biggest plunge ever, when everyone was telling us we were CRAZY, and moved to the country. We had no idea if we just liked the idea of country living or if we actually liked country living for real;-/ We moved to a big and beautiful white four square that had only 2 previous owners and the ones before us did EVERYTHING so we could just move in and enjoy;-) This farmhouse is far enough away from our “old life” that we had to find a new church family, new friends, and figure out how a house running on propane works… all in one winter! We still live close enough that we got to keep our old friends and see our families often. We got the BEST OF ALL WORLDS! We sit on our front porch and are just blown away by God’s goodness and provision in our lives. The path He has brought us on is far different than I ever pictured and WAAAAYYY more perfect;-)
Come along with me on my journey through motherhood, decorating on a tight budget, and still managing to feed my family healthy and easy food… all while giving you (probably) a few hilarious things to laugh at from time to time.
Welcome to my little corner of cyber land! I hope you stick around and enjoy reading about my DIY life, homemaking, cooking, and thriving in the mommy life;-)
